STUDENT ACTIVISM WEEK 2019

21ST – 23RD OCTOBER 2019

The Rizq ASAP LCWU Program organized and hosted a ‘Student Activism Week 2019’ from the 21st to 23rd of October 2019, under supervision of Department of Professional Studies and the Directorate of Student Affairs. The series of events included talks, seminars, competitions, student presentations and an exhibition. Dr. Asma Shahid Kazi, CoD Department of Professional Studies, Ms. Shagufta Moghal (Rizq ASAP LCWU Advisor), Department of Professional Studies and Ms. Bushra Nadeem, Director Student Affairs were the focal persons for the events. Students from all over the university participated in the Poster Competition, Speech Competition Audition, National Songs Competition and Cultural Dance Competition.

The theme for the seminar on the 21st October 2019 was ‘Animal Rights Awareness’, in collaboration with the Animal Protection and Welfare Society, LCWU. The guest speaker was Syed Naeem Abbasi, Manager Advocacy, from Brooke Pakistan. Dr. Amina Obaid, Applied Psychology Department, gave a talk in the significance and importance of compassion for animals. She also highlighted the presentations of 4 students from her department who had worked for the welfare of animals in their community. Syed Naeem Abbasi made the attendees aware about the nation-wide policy changes and initiatives for animal rights in Pakistan.

There was also a poster exhibition of the submissions for the poster competition, which had the theme ‘Compassion for Animals’. The exhibition was organized under the supervision of Dr. Sara Omer, Graphic Design Department, LCWU. The panel of judges including Ms. Shireen Asad, Syed Naeem Abbasi, Dr. Subha Malik (CoD Gender Studies), Ms. Ghazala, IDVA, and Dr. Talat Sohail (CoD Applied Psychology Department), selected the winners for the poster competition.

On the 22nd October 2019 the talks and presentations were related to the theme of ‘Cultural Diversity Awareness’ in IT seminar hall. The resource persons for the talks were Dr. Ayesha Butt, TESOL Department, and Dr. Asma Shahid Kazi, CoD Department of Professional Studies. They conducted interactive sessions on the importance and role of diversity awareness and its need for the 21st century learners. The talks were followed by a cultural dress presentation by the students of the Department of Professional Studies.

After the talks and presentations, the team Rizq ASAP LCWU team auditions for the RIZQ ASAP LCWU Speech Competition. Ms. Shagufta Moghal, Rizq ASAP LCWU Advisor, and Dr. Sadia Noor, Head Urdu Debating Society, took the auditions for the Urdu and English speeches. The selected students were intimated of the topics for the qualifying round.

The team organized talk by the Co-Founder Rizq, Musa Aamir, on the 23rd of October 2019. The chief guest for the event was the worthy Vice Chancellor Lahore College for Women University, Prof. Dr. Bushra Mirza. Musa Aamir talked about the "Role of youth in feeding the future". He told us about the amazing journey of Rizq which is an inspiration for students and the need for the involvement and activism of the students of Pakistan to solve societal issues and problems. The Worthy Vice Chancellor of Lahore College for Women University Prof. Dr. Bushra Mirza addressed the audience and shared her views on the importance of student activism and its role in the development of the youth. She appreciated the initiative of Rizq ASAP LCWU and wished the team good luck for future projects.

The talk was followed by National Songs Competition and Cultural Dance Competition. The Honourable Judges for the final round of competitions for the Student Activism Week 2019, were Ms. Bushra Nadeem, Dr. Afifa Khanam, Ms. Ghazala, Dr. Sarah Omer and Dr. Ayesha Butt. They selected and awarded the winners of the competitions. This brought the events of the Student Activism Week to an end.
