-Department of Islamic Studies

Islamic Studies as an elective subject was introduced in Lahore College after the establishment of Pakistan. Mrs. Riffat Hanif a renowned scholar joined this institution in 1951 as Head of the Islamiat Department. She was a driving force in motivating the students to opt for this subject with the main objective of character building of students according to Islamic teachings. Post Graduate classes started under her supervision in 1979.

Miss Naseem e Sahar Samad is currently the Head of the Islamic Studies Department. Under her supervision B.A. (Hons) 4 Year degree program was started in 2004 and M.Phil / Ph.D. program will be started in 2007 (Inshallah).

Head of Department's ‏Message

The main focus of our department is to inculcate real Islamic spirit among the students of our university. For this purpose the courses are designed to meet the present day requirements. In four years degree program we have stressed the need of promoting Quranic and Islamic teachings. The integration of computer technology to Quranic and Islamic studies is imperative to face new realities. Moreover combination of Arabic Language will cater the precision of reasoning and clarity of presentation among the students at graduate levels. We intend to start M.Phil/PhD courses from the session 2007 to promote the research tradition.
