Department of Mass Communication
Department of Mass Communication was established in 1986 with the aim to educate the educators of the public and to teach journalism as the pursuit of truth. A degree from Lahore College for Women remains one of the best ways to get ahead in journalism from the beginning the program gained a tremendous popularity and this year 551 students are enrolled for the bachelor session. Advising the increasing head of this discipline, Lahore College for Women now offers a degree of M.Sc. in Mass Communication under the supervision of Ms. Anjum Zia, head of the department.
The curriculum is composed of core courses and optional courses. The core courses are mainly aimed at enabling students to develop conceptual as well as practical knowledge of the discipline.
OBJECTIVES AND OUTCOMES
- To impart knowledge about environment and environmental science through wide range of subjects related to natural sciences and social sciences using integrated and holistic approach.
- To teach different methods of exploration, investigation, organization of data and its utilization in practical life with reference to environment and to address environmental issues and challenges for sustainable development.
- To equip students with the knowledge and skills for better planning, protection and management of resources, environment, health, agriculture and population in the country.
- To prepare and train students for advanced studies and specialization in recently emerging technological and interdisciplinary fields such as Biodiversity, Wildlife and Conservation, Bioremediation, Environmental monitoring, Environmental Biotechnology, Environmental Impact Assessment and Environmental Management etc. After completing the degree students will be able to apply knowledge to the respective fields to find solutions of environmental related problems and propose sustainable strategies.
- To develop the scientific attitude and demonstrate professional skills in teaching/research/managerial positions in wide range of professions in national and international organizations.

In Department of Mass Communication students learn from an outstanding faculty and from the varied opportunities of a vibrant city with many media organizations. The department's required and elective courses include a foundation in communication theory and research plus practical skills that are relevant not only for entry-level jobs but, more important, for continuing professional development. They prepare students to write clearly, speak effectively, and think critically - all of which are essential for continuing career success. The undergraduate program offers both insightful academic study of the media and preparation for professional careers in print, broadcasting, new media, advertising, and public relations. The graduate program involves research on practically any media topic and makes use of critical, cultural, historical, legal, ethical, and social scientific approaches.
