Department of Physics
Since 1922 L.C.W. has proved its
worth as the highest seat of learning for science subjects. F.Sc.
classes started right from the day, Lahore College for Women was
founded. Department of physics is one of the oldest department of LCWU that is established in 1922. Before partition F.Sc. classes were regularly held in the old building at Hall road. Hindu, Sikh and British teachers taught physics as a compulsory subject. The college was shifted to the present building in 1951. B. Sc. Two-year program was started in 1958 and later B.Sc. (Hons) classes were conducted in 1960’s. M.Sc. classes were started in 1966. It was the matter of great pride for the physics department that Lahore College at that time was the only female institution in Pakistan offering post graduate classes in Physics. B.Sc. (Hons) three years program started in 2001. In the year 2006 BS. (Hons) four years program was introduced. Recently numbers of new disciplines are introduced that include Nanotechnology, Renewable energy sources, Material fabrication and characterization, Metal physics, Medical physics, Computational physics and Applied physics. Physics department of this pioneering institution has produced a large number of eminent teaching faculties who have served or are serving in various universities, colleges and research centers of national and international reputes.
