Botany is one of the natural science subjects. The overarching aim of Botany is to produce graduate and post-graduate degree programs in science. Each specialization is a complete discipline in its own sphere and requires specialized teaching, research and laboratory facilities to strengthen the interactions between the Departments of University. Mrs. Diara Maqeet was the first Head of the Department of Biology. After Mrs. Maqeet, Ms Prem Madan was appointed as the Head of the Department. She worked throughout her career with missionary zeal for the promotion of the Department. Mrs. Khatoon Zahoor was another prominent teacher of that era who succeeded Ms. Prem Madan, as the Head of the Botany Department. Mrs. Khatoon Zahoor was a woman of Substance. She put in commendable efforts in starting postgraduate classes, M.Sc. Botany in 1993. Mrs. Shamim Sattar and Mrs. Rashda Zafar were the nest heads of the Department. Currently Mrs. Zafar Hussain is working as Head of Botany Department. BS (Hons), a four year degree program was started in 2005, MS and MS Leading to Ph.D. programme started in 2009.
