Department of Urdu
Urdu is the national language
of Pakistan. It is a source of Muslim culture. Urdu literature
has a precious intellectual heritage because it was the
language of the Muslims of the sub-continent.
Urdu was taught as an optional subject in the pre-partition
era. Mrs. Abdullah taught Urdu to the students. After
independence the significance of Urdu as the national
language enhanced. Honours classes were held in the decade
of 1960’s. Teaching of Urdu as a compulsory subject
started in 1961 at Inter level. Post-graduate classes
started in 1992 and B.S. (Hons.) classes have also started from 2005. Great emphasis is laid on research pursuits
and 32 research thesis have been added by the students
of MS. Urdu in the seminar library from 1994 to date.
