The 5th International Conference on Statistical Sciences: Mathematics, Statistics and Applications was held from January 23-25, 2009, organized by Islamic Countries Society of Statistical Sciences in collaboration with National College of Business Administration and Economics (NCBA&E), Lahore. The conference was largely attended by participants from countries all over the world including Taiwan, Turkey, USA, and Iran. The conference was inaugurated by Professor Dr. Atta-ur-Rahman, FRS, former Chairman, HEC and Federal Minister of Science and Technology. The Lahore College for Women, University had a significant participation in the conference. The participants (M.Sc.2006-08) from LCWU, Department of Statistics, presented research papers in their respective areas of study, which were largely applauded and appreciated by the participants.
The paper entitled “The Exponentiated Rayleigh Distribution: Some Properties” by Bilqees Qamar and Dr. Ayesha Roohi was presented by Bilqees Qamar in the technical session-1: Probability and Statistics-I chaired by Dr. M. Qamarul Islam, Turkey on Jan.23, 2009. On the 2nd day in the technical session-12: Survey Sampling chaired by Dr. Javed Shabbir Quid-e-Azam University Islamabad , Nida Mahmood presented a paper “Empirical Study of Different Ratio-Type and Regression-Type Estimators” by Nida Mahmood ,Riffat Jabeen, Naila Amjad and Alia Fawad . On the last day, in the Technical Session-19:Education Statistics Chaired by Dr. Safdar Baghali, USA, Najma Bashir presented a research paper entitled “Factors Affecting the Female Education at LCWU, Lahore” by Najma Bashir, Samreen Zulfiqar, Iram Javed and Uzma Nauman.
Efforts of the above mentioned participants of LCWU, Lahore were highly appreciated and the conference overall had tremendous success in achieving its objectives.
