Ph.D Program

The education and training of doctoral students is one of the most important aspects of a university's activities. The pursuit of knowledge through research higher degree programs not only leads to a well-educated society and a highly trained professional work force, but also contributes significantly to the Research.

The aim of the PhD program is to provide research training in a manner that fosters the development of independent research skills in candidates. These skills include the capacity to formulate a significant problem, to develop mastery of appropriate conceptual and methodological skills, and to relate the research topic to a broader framework of knowledge in the relevant disciplinary area. The doctoral thesis provides evidence of a contribution to knowledge with a level of originality consistent with 3-4 years of full-time study and research training. It also demonstrates a candidate's capacity for critical analysis and that he or she is capable of pursuing scholarly and programmatic research.


Eligibility

1st division M.A/M.Sc. or its equivalent in the relevant subject from a recognized University.
OR
Teachers/Officers of the Lahore College for Women University with Second Division and three years experience in the relevant field.

Procedure For Application, Admission And Registration

  1. An applicant desirous of seeking admission to Ph.D program shall apply on a prescribed form within due date after the advertisement for admission.
  2. The application shall be submitted to the Registrar Office.
  3. All applications received shall be scrutinized for eligibility by the Doctoral Programme Committee (Chairman, all Professors & Associate professors, one senior most Assistant Professor/Lecturer, holding Ph.D degree). In Departments where there is no Professor/Associate Professor, Doctoral Programme Committee will be constituted by the Vice-Chancellor on the recommendation of Dean of the Faculty.
  4. An applicant shall be judged on the basis of the following criterion for admission: -

    Academic qualifications 40 Marks
    Publications –(1 Mark per publication) 05 Marks
    Professional experience  -  05 Marks (One Mark of each year)
    Written test (comprehension of the subject. General aptitude for research) 40 Marks
    Interview  10 Marks

    Minimum marks for qualifying the written test 50%. Only those candidates will be called for interview who qualify written test.
  5. For new programmes for admission to MS leading Ph.D. candidates are required to clear GRE/GAT as per HEC criteria.
  6. The Doctoral Programme Committee shall recommend to the Dean.
