Brief Statement of Research Interest

My interest in research is multi-disciplinary, which is because of my academic training in the disciplines of History, Education and Political Science. As an academic, I have designed and taught research methodology courses as well as conducted research workshops and seminars for graduate students of Education, History, English, and Islamic Studies programmes at universities, including Fatima Jinnah Women University in Rawalpindi, Pakistan Studies Centre of University of Punjab in Lahore. I have also developed new courses of ‘Research Methodology’ for MS in Education and ‘Advanced Research Methods in Education: Designing Qualitative, Quantitative, Mixed Methods and Action Research’ for PhD students of Faculty of Education, at L.C.W.U., Lahore.
Being a historian of research in education, I enjoy digging for archived documents about education policy with particular focus on secondary curriculum and textbooks. My PhD and other research endeavours have further helped me understand and effectively analyse contemporary developments in the field of curriculum evaluation, pedagogic styles for effective learning, second language acquisition, classroom management, and lifelong learning. Besides my personal research initiatives, I have supervised research theses covering a range of contemporary educational concepts and issues, such as, the impact of social constructivist learning spaces on students’ learning and teaching practices, parent teacher collaboration for enhancing learning in schools, analysis of citizenship education in the textbooks, educational leadership and teaching pedagogies, investigation of schools as learning organisations, in-depth analyses of areas of student-teacher relationship attributing to their growth, developing narrative writing skills of cochlear implanted students in the mainstream schools, and developing reading and listening abilities of students in English language acquisition. My supervised researches involve a breadth of research methods; including, experimental design, model application, content analysis, and action research. I have also helped my research supervisee students getting acquainted with the ways and process of turning aspects of their academic research into articles for publication in research journals.
Based on my PhD research, I have prepared and published journal articles focusing on areas including, a) the impact of World War II affecting changes in the secondary curriculum organisation of schools in British India; b) impact of British education policy on education systems prevailing in British India; c) the strategic adoption, and positioning of English language in schools of British India. Moreover, I intend to develop a manuscript about secondary curriculum developments during the early decades of Pakistan’s creation. Going forward, I aim to continue further with research in key areas of education policy, textbooks analysis, curriculum evaluation, narrative writing skills, leadership in learning organisation, second language acquisition, inclusive education, global citizenship education, and other SDG priority areas.
