K-BIC Hosts Inaugural Meeting with Departmental Focal Persons to Boost Entrepreneurial Ecosystem at LCWU

Khadija Tul Kubra Business Incubation Center (K-BIC) at Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) convened its first meeting on 16th February, 2024 with first batch of nominated focal persons from various departments, marking a significant step towards fostering entrepreneurship culture within the university. The nominations were received by sending an open call to all departments at LCWU and at first stage 15 departments took lead by engaging their faculty in Entrepreneurial activities at K-BIC and becoming change agent within department and LCWU Ecosystem at large. The nominations were received from departments including Architecture, Arabic, Biotechnology, Botany, Computer Science, Economics, English, Electrical Engineering, Persian, Gender & Development Studies, Geography, Management Sciences, Public Administration, Physics, and Software Engineering.

The meeting was presided over by Dr. Maria Anjum, Director K-BIC and an open discussion was carried out between K-BIC team and focal persons to discuss K-BIC vision and strategies to promote the entrepreneurial culture within LCWU departments. The focal persons were briefed on their pivotal role as liaisons between K-BIC and their respective departments, advocating for entrepreneurial initiatives and facilitating collaboration between K-BIC and departmental faculties. The agenda also included the training of focal persons, and providing a platform that can enable them to be an effective change agent within their departments and LCWU Entrepreneurial ecosystem. K-BIC is part of the LCWU community which believes in mutual Ownership and Success. We would like to see more departments joining K-BIC and becoming part of the journey to develop the entrepreneurial ecosystem.

USAID-HESSA Delegation Visited Khadija tul Kubra BIC LCWU 

On January 17, 2024, a delegation of guest participants and trainers from USAID's Higher Education System Strengthening Activity (HESSA) visited Khadija tul Kubra Business Incubation Center (K-BIC). 

Valuable insights, covering the spectrum of facilities, opportunities, and the center's pivotal role in fostering entrepreneurship within LCWU were discussed.

The visit also included a warm welcome to all participants and Dr. Randy McCrillis, Dean of Students and Executive Director of the Office of Global Engagement at the University of Utah. Dr. Maria Anjum, Director K-BIC, also introduced the esteemed guests to her dedicated team and the enthusiastic members of the K-BIC’s Entrepreneurial Club.

 

Ms. Falahat Imran member WCCI visited K-BIC 

11th January, 2024, Ms. Falahat Imran from Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Lahore Division, visited the Khadija tul Kubra Business Incubation Center (K-BIC) at Lahore College for Women University (LCWU). Ms. Fareeha Younas member LCCI Visited K-BIC LCWU

13th December 2023: Ms. Fareeha Younas, Chairperson of the Women Empowerment Committee at Lahore Chamber of Commerce & Industry, visited K-BIC LCWU. During her visit, she had a productive meeting with K-BIC Director Dr. Maria Anjum and her team, including Ms. Farah Qureshi and Ms. Nadia Tahir. The interaction aimed at fostering collaboration and exploring opportunities for women's empowerment initiatives within the KBIC framework. Additionally, they had a comprehensive tour of Lahore College for Women University to further acquaint Ms. Fareeha with the institution's facilities and potential collaborative spaces.

Robotics Expert & an Italian Entrepreneur Visited K-BIC LCWU

13th December 2023: Dr. Francesco Maurelli, a distinguished expert in Marine Systems and Robotics at Constructor University, Germany, visited K-BIC LCWU. Welcomed by K-BIC Director Dr. Maria Anjum and team, he was given a comprehensive tour of Lahore College for Women University. His valuable insights in the field enriched the knowledge exchange session at the facility. The visit provided an opportunity for students and faculty to engage with Dr. Maurelli, enhancing the learning experience and fostering collaboration between academic institutions.

 

Mr. Azmat Javed, Chairperson Industrial Solution & Member LCCI Visited K-BIC LCWU 

Mr. Azmat Javed, Chairperson Industrial Solution Committee and Executive Committee member at the Lahore Chamber of Commerce & Industry, visited Khadija tul Kubra Business Incubation Center K-BIC LCWU on 12-12-2023. The meeting with Dr. Maria Anjum, Director K-BIC and her team, Mr. Muhammad Yousaf, Ms. Farah Qureshi and Ms. Nadia Tahir, focused on potential collaboration. Key points discussed included the exploration of student-industrial linkage and joint training initiatives. Mr. Javed praised K-BIC's infrastructure and discussed providing opportunities for incubettes within the K-BIC. The visit concluded with a motivational talk to students at the eRozgaar lab, highlighting a promising partnership between the Lahore Chamber of Commerce & Industry and Lahore College for Women University for future growth and support.


Mr. Taimoor Hassan Director BIC and his team from Foundation University Islamabad (FUI) visited K-BIC LCWU 

6th December, 2023: Mr. Taimoor Hassan, the Director BIC at Foundation University Islamabad (FUI), along with his team, visited K-BIC LCWU. During the visit, they engaged in a consultancy session with Dr. Maria Anjum, Director K-BIC and her team. This session likely involved discussions, advice, and sharing of expertise on various aspects related to business incubation, entrepreneurship, or specific challenges and opportunities that K-BIC LCWU may be facing.

The purpose of this sessions is typically to foster collaboration, exchange insights, and provide guidance to enhance the effectiveness of the incubation center's initiatives and support for startups or entrepreneurial ventures.

BIC and ORIC team FJMU visited K-BIC LCWU

14th November 2023: Dr. Taskeen Zahra and Ms. Sanniya Rasool from the BIC and ORIC team at Fatima Jinnah Medical University, Lahore visited K-BIC LCWU. They conducted a meeting with Dr. Ayesha Iqbal, representing the K-BIC Director and her team, including Mr. Muhammad Yousaf, Business Development Officer, Ms. Farah Saleem, HR Officer, and Ms. Nadia Tahir. The discussions centered around the progress report of their Business Incubation Center (BIC), and plans were made to submit it to K-BIC LCWU, recognizing it as the leading consortium partner. This visit aimed to strengthen collaboration and share updates on the respective incubation initiatives. 

 

Mr. Farhaan Riaz, Manager TICK UET, visited K-BIC LCWU

2nd November 2023: Mr. Muhammad Farhaan Riaz [Founder and Program Manager Technology Incubation Center, UET] was warmly welcomed at Khadija tul Kubra Business Incubation Center (K-BIC) LCWU. During his visit, Dr. Maria Anjum [Director K-BIC], Dr. Asma Shahid Kazi [Chairperson of the Department of Elementary and Teacher Education] and the K-BIC team, including Mr. Muhammad Yousaf, Ms. Farah Saleem, and Ms. Nadia accompanied him. 

During the visit, there was a tour of K-BIC's facilities, where the workspaces tailored for startups were showcased. Dr. Maria conveyed K-BIC's vision, underscoring its dedication to fostering innovation and entrepreneurship through its services. Moreover, drawing from his experience with the business and incubation center, a future session was scheduled for students.

 Faculty Visit of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering Department to K-BIC LCWU (2nd November 2023)

Dr. Maria provided an informative presentation about K-BIC's vision and mission, emphasizing its role in promoting innovation and entrepreneurship. The meeting concluded with a networking session, allowing the faculty members, Dr. Maria, and the K-BIC team to continue their discussions, exchange ideas, and explore potential collaborations. 

Dr. Asma Shahid Kazi, STEM Education, visited K-BIC LCWU

1st November 2023: Dr. Asma Shahid Kazi [Chairperson of the Department of Elementary and Teacher Education] was warmly welcomed at Khadija tul Kubra Business Incubation Center (K-BIC) LCWU. During her visit, Dr. Maria Anjum [Director K-BIC] along with the K-BIC team, including Mr. Muhammad Yousaf, Ms. Nadia Tahir, and Ms. Ayesha Sandhu [Secretary Entrepreneurial Club] accompanied her.

The visit encompassed a tour of K-BIC's facilities, showcasing the workspaces designed for startups. Dr. Maria shared the vision of K-BIC, emphasizing its services and commitment to fostering innovation and entrepreneurship.

A meaningful discussion ensued, during which Dr. Asma shared her interest in potential collaboration with K-BIC. The importance of digital, financial, and health literacy in today's rapidly evolving world was also discussed.

Dr. Asma also introduced her TEDx LCWU program and explored avenues for collaboration with K-BIC. Ms. Nadia shared her positive experience of attending her TEDx event "Beyond the Stars". 

Impressed by the workshops conducted at K-BIC, Dr. Asma expressed her eagerness to participate, to which Dr. Maria extended a warm invitation, solidifying the potential for future collaboration and knowledge exchange between the Department of Elementary and Teacher Education and K-BIC LCWU.

Faculty of Management and Administrative Sciences visited K-BIC

On 31st October 2023, faculty members and chairpersons from the Faculty of Management and Administrative Sciences at Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) paid a visit to Khadija Tul Kubra Business Incubation Center (K-BIC). Dr. Maria Anjum, the Director of K-BIC, presided over the meeting, with a warm and formal reception extended to the esteemed guests by Ms. Farah, Mr. Yousaf, and Ms. Nadia from the K-BIC team.The visit began with a cordial reception as Dr. Adeel Nasir, Chairperson of the Department of Management Science, and Dr. Sobia Hassan, Chairperson of the Department of Public Administration, arrived at K-BIC.Dr. Maria, Director of K-BIC, provided a comprehensive presentation on the vision and mission of K-BIC, emphasizing its role in fostering innovation and entrepreneurship. She highlighted the incubation center's commitment to providing a nurturing environment for innovative ideas and turning them into successful businesses. Dr. Maria also underscored the importance of strong ties between academia and the incubation center.The presentation showcased the diverse range of services and resources offered by K-BIC, including mentorship, access to multiple opportunities, workshops, networking events, and specialized training programs. The faculty members were encouraged to explore potential collaborations between their academic departments and K-BIC.

Dr. Maria made a special announcement, informing the visitors that the call for cohort applications is currently open and will remain so until the 6th of November. This created an opportunity for faculty and students to actively engage with K-BIC.

BIC Team of the Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) Dr. Maria Anjum [Director K-BIC], Mr. Muhammad Yousaf [Business Development Officer], Ms. Nadia Tahir [Lecture Assistant] and Mr. Shahid Saif [Accounts Officer] visited the Kinnaird Business Incubation Center. Prof. Dr. Ghazala Yaqub [Director/Head Research Operations] and Ms. Meashall Usman [Manager BIC] of Kinnaird College for Women, shared the current practices of their department including the cohort process.

Visit of Team K-BIC to Kinnaird Business Incubation Center

29th August, 2023: BIC Team of the Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) Mr. Muhammad Yousaf, Business Development Officer and Ms. Farah Qureshi, HR & Finance Officer, visited the Kinnaird Business Incubation Center. They have interacted with Prof. Dr. Ghazala Yaqub (heading ORIC and BIC Team) of Kinnaird College for Women (KCW), Lahore - Pakistan. The agenda was to share the current practices of ORIC & BIC and get consultancy about the steps to be taken in the future to make the BIC and ORIC successful.
