Introduction:

The Persian Department at LCWU, set up in 1922, has a magnificent past. It has a glorious past spanning over nine decades, being one of the few departments at the time this great institution was founded. This eminent Department of Persian at LCWU is an icon of rich literary activity. It does not only promote awareness and appreciation of the cultural richness of an ancient civilization, but also fosters a better understating of Persian languages and literature i.e. Iranology. The Department provides its students proficiency in the integrated language skills, i.e. listening, speaking, reading and writing. A spacious, well-equipped library area welcomes the students of Persian to consult a wide variety of books on their subject.

The activities of the Department are not limited to learning alone. The Department also organizes other academic activities, like arranging international seminars, conferences, lectures, debates and poetry recitation on relevant topics. National and international scholars are highly encouraged and invited to participate in the lectures.

The Persian Department is now successful in the publication of its first academic biannual journal Anahita, a journal of research in Persian language, literature, arts and cultural studies. This journal will be useful for scholars and students of Persian language and literature as well as of other languages and history by enhancing their taste and interest in language and literature.

The name Anahita has been taken from ancient Persian mythology. Anahita was an Iranian goddess of purity, fertility, green branches, and wisdom, adopted by Zoroastrian pantheon. She is also associated with beauty and art, embracing the attributes of productivity and warm waters flowing from celestial realms into our lives, thus reviving every thing on the earth.

Naming this academic research journal Anahita, signifies the hope that it will promote and nourish culture and art in the field of Persian language and literature just like the deity Anahita.  It is expected that this journal will be an asset of noetic wisdom, academic activities, and a symbol of humanistic qualities, and tremendous achievement in the realms of Persian literature.
