Day 1-Seminar on International Language: “1st International Seminar on Arabic Language’’ was conducted by Arabic Department LCWU, Lahore at Iqra Auditorium on Monday 28th Oct, 2019 under the educational and research collaboration programme of HEC between Arabic Department, Lahore College for Women University, Lahore and International Islamic University Malaysia.
Vice Chancellor LCWU Prof. Dr. Bushra Mirza and Dean of Oriental Learning Punjab University Prof. Dr. Muhammad Saleem Mazhar were invited as Chief Guest. Additional Secretary Punjab Saman Roay was invited as guest of honour. Dr.Asem Shehadeh Saleh Ali Head of Arabic Department IIUM and Assistant Prof. Dr. Badri Najib Bin Zubir, Respected Professors and Teachers from Punjab University and other universities of Pakistan attended the seminar. This programme was conducted to highlight the importance and significance of Arabic language.
Day 2-Curriculum Development Training of faculty: In this Training our Worthy guests from International Islamic University Malaysia share their experience to enhance the Arabic Curriculum by setting specific learning goals and ways of achieving them.
Day 3-Calligraphy Competition: The basic purpose of this competition as Calligraphy has arguably become the most venerated form of Islamic art because it provides a link between the languages of the Muslims with the religion of Islam. This competition benefits students for the rest of their lives. Such competitions turn out to be very meaningful for the students since calligraphy not only improve writing skills, but also teach students about their unique structure and the beauty of the national language.
Day 4-Workshop on Arabic Language Speaking skill: Dr.Asem Shehadeh Saleh Ali, Head of Arabic Department IIUM and Assistant Prof. Dr. Badri Najib Bin Zubir was the speaker in this workshop.
The basic objectives of this workshop is to enable students gain basic skills in writing and pronouncing the Arabic alphabet. In line with that, they gradually learn to read words and short sentences. Those aims are achieved through implementing a thorough plan that relies on teaching the Arabic alphabet on a gradual basis. That is, a student learns the letter and the word that contains it along with the vowels that go with it, ensuring that these words don’t contain any new letters that learners haven’t been exposed to. At this stage of the course, the book Introduction to the Arabic language along with visual aids and pictures are used.
A three-day International Symposium titled “The Post-colonial and the Glocal” was held by Lahore College for Women University, Lahore in collaboration with the Higher Education Commission and the International Islamic University, Malaysia. It was held at Iqra Auditorium at Lahore College for Women University, Lahore, Pakistan. Day 1 of International Symposium was on Tuesday, 29th October, 2019 and started with the recitation from Holy Quran. The Vice Chancellor of Lahore College for Women University, Lahore, Pakistan, Prof. Dr. Bushra Mirza gave a welcome address, praising the Department of English for its contribution in the internationalization of education and establishing itself as an international center for research. She also shared some clauses from a Letter of Intent signed between Lahore College for Women University English Department and the English Department of International Islamic University of Malaysia. There were two panel discussions. The first panel for Literature was moderated by Dr. Amara Khan, Assistant Prof. at Lahore College for Women University. The panel contained several notable names from the field of English Literature. The second panel for Linguistics was moderated by Ms Memoona Sohail, Assistant Professor in the Department of English, Lahore College for Women University, Lahore. This panel also contained Dr. Roziana Rosli from the English Department at International Islamic University, Malaysia. The two panels shed light on the various aspects of Literature and Linguistics. The day ended with the distribution of certificates.
B.Ed. 1.5 Year (Self Support Evening Program)
Lahore College for Women University, Lahore announces admission for B.Ed. 1.5 Year (Self Support Evening Program) offered by the Department of Education (Planning & Development), Lahore College for Women University, Lahore.
B.Ed is one and a half year (Three semesters) program (HEC approved program) focusing on preparation of prospective school teachers. This program is designed to train the prospective teachers in professional knowledge, aligned with HEC road map. This program provides an opportunity to prospective teachers for enhancement of Professional competencies. As per requirement of govt. of Punjab, it is compulsory to have a 16 years of contact education along with 1.5 year Professional Education.

Political Science Society LCWU

In continuation to show solidarity with Kashmir cause, the Political Science Society LCWU conducted a KASHMIR STUDY CIRCLE” ON 24 Oct, 2019.( to Observe BLACK DAY of Kashmir history, the day when on 27th October 1947, the Indian forces invaded Kashmir for illegal occupation) . Students from all disciplines of Faculty of Social Sciences were invited to discuss the GEOGPARHY OF KASHMIR & GEOPOLITICAL SIGNIFICANCE OF KASHMIR. Faculty member Dr. Sadia Falki and Chairperson Political Science Department Dr. Qamar Fatima gave conclusive remarks at the end.

An awareness seminar regarding Breast Cancer Awareness Month (October 2019) conducted at Lahore College for Women University, organized by District Health Authority and Prevention & Control of Non-Communicable Diseases Program, Punjab in collaboration with Gender and Development Studies Department, LCWU in the student service center (Seminar Hall) on 21-10-2019 at 10:00 am. Dr. Subha Malik, Chairperson Gender and Development Studies welcomed and introduced the speaker guests. Ms. Tahira Mariam (District Health Education Officer) discussed the Risk Factrs, signs and symptoms for early detection of breast cancer.
A small health message regarding Polio Awareness and Upcoming Polio Campaign (Starting from 4th of November 2019) was also delivered by District Health Authority Team. Ms. Reema, Communication Officer from UNICEF discussed about current issues regarding Polio in Lahore.
District Health Authority Team was grateful to Gender and Development Studies Department, LCWU for support and facilitation in conducting Breast Cancer Awareness Seminar.
RIZQ ALLIANCE OF STUDENTS AGAINST POVERTY (ASAP) LCWU PROGRAM
STUDENT ACTIVISM WEEK 2019
21ST – 23RD OCTOBER 2019
The Rizq ASAP LCWU Program organized and hosted a ‘Student Activism Week 2019’ from the 21st to 23rd of October 2019, under supervision of Department of Professional Studies and the Directorate of Student Affairs. The series of events included talks, seminars, competitions, student presentations and an exhibition. Dr. Asma Shahid Kazi, CoD Department of Professional Studies, Ms. Shagufta Moghal (Rizq ASAP LCWU Advisor), Department of Professional Studies and Ms. Bushra Nadeem, Director Student Affairs were the focal persons for the events. Students from all over the university participated in the Poster Competition, Speech Competition Audition, National Songs Competition and Cultural Dance Competition.
The theme for the seminar on the 21st October 2019 was ‘Animal Rights Awareness’, in collaboration with the Animal Protection and Welfare Society, LCWU. The guest speaker was Syed Naeem Abbasi, Manager Advocacy, from Brooke Pakistan. Dr. Amina Obaid, Applied Psychology Department, gave a talk in the significance and importance of compassion for animals. She also highlighted the presentations of 4 students from her department who had worked for the welfare of animals in their community. Syed Naeem Abbasi made the attendees aware about the nation-wide policy changes and initiatives for animal rights in Pakistan.
There was also a poster exhibition of the submissions for the poster competition, which had the theme ‘Compassion for Animals’. The exhibition was organized under the supervision of Dr. Sara Omer, Graphic Design Department, LCWU. The panel of judges including Ms. Shireen Asad, Syed Naeem Abbasi, Dr. Subha Malik (CoD Gender Studies), Ms. Ghazala, IDVA, and Dr. Talat Sohail (CoD Applied Psychology Department), selected the winners for the poster competition.
On the 22nd October 2019 the talks and presentations were related to the theme of ‘Cultural Diversity Awareness’ in IT seminar hall. The resource persons for the talks were Dr. Ayesha Butt, TESOL Department, and Dr. Asma Shahid Kazi, CoD Department of Professional Studies. They conducted interactive sessions on the importance and role of diversity awareness and its need for the 21st century learners. The talks were followed by a cultural dress presentation by the students of the Department of Professional Studies.
After the talks and presentations, the team Rizq ASAP LCWU team auditions for the RIZQ ASAP LCWU Speech Competition. Ms. Shagufta Moghal, Rizq ASAP LCWU Advisor, and Dr. Sadia Noor, Head Urdu Debating Society, took the auditions for the Urdu and English speeches. The selected students were intimated of the topics for the qualifying round.
The team organized talk by the Co-Founder Rizq, Musa Aamir, on the 23rd of October 2019. The chief guest for the event was the worthy Vice Chancellor Lahore College for Women University, Prof. Dr. Bushra Mirza. Musa Aamir talked about the "Role of youth in feeding the future". He told us about the amazing journey of Rizq which is an inspiration for students and the need for the involvement and activism of the students of Pakistan to solve societal issues and problems. The Worthy Vice Chancellor of Lahore College for Women University Prof. Dr. Bushra Mirza addressed the audience and shared her views on the importance of student activism and its role in the development of the youth. She appreciated the initiative of Rizq ASAP LCWU and wished the team good luck for future projects.
The talk was followed by National Songs Competition and Cultural Dance Competition. The Honourable Judges for the final round of competitions for the Student Activism Week 2019, were Ms. Bushra Nadeem, Dr. Afifa Khanam, Ms. Ghazala, Dr. Sarah Omer and Dr. Ayesha Butt. They selected and awarded the winners of the competitions. This brought the events of the Student Activism Week to an end.
