    Project Display of BS student

    Department of Home Economics organized Project Display of BS student on 26 Nov, 2019. The exhibition was inaugurated by worthy Vice Chancellor LCWU Dr Bushra Mirza and Chief Guest Dr. Samia Kalsoom Ex-principal College of Home Economics. BS students of all major disciplines displayed their semester projects.
    Students of Food and Nutrition highlighted reasons of major prevalent diseases such as PCOS, DIABETES, CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASES, OBESITY MALNUTRITION and HYPERTENSION through posters. Guidelines to cope and cure were presented along with menu chart, diet plans and home-made food products.
    Students of Human Development and family studies presented models that addressed human behaviour issues and ways to overcome those disorders, it included post traumatic stress disorder, anger management and insomnia management. Students also displayed projects to induce effective learning techniques through educational games for pre-schoolers.
    Students of Interior and environmental management displayed their renovation projects, posters on space planning for residential and commercial areas. Theme based prototypes and residence projects based on modern storage and home decor techniques were also displayed.

    Students of Textile and clothing projects were comprised of theme-based fashion illustrations and draping of dresses that focused on cutline and various techniques of structural designing. Students also displayed home decor projects made from intricate techniques of hand-weaving including wall panels, tapestries and side tables 

    Cut Flower and Dry Flower arrangement Competition,2019

    HORTICULTURE SOCIETY OF PAKISTAN, LAHORE organized CUT FLOWER AND DRY FLOWER ARRANGEMENT COMPETITION, 2019 at Jillani Park in collaboration with PARKS & HORTICULTURE AUTHORITY, LAHORE.  The event was held on 29th November 2019. The competition was categorized as Center table arrangement and Corner table arrangement. Students from different colleges participated in this competition. Ten students from Home Economics Department of semester 3rd and 5th participated. Armin from 3rd semester won the first prize in dry flower arrangement.

    Visual Arts Students won prizes at a Competition of Islamic Calligraphy

    Students of Visual Arts Department participated in a competition titled as “Islamic Calligraphy” held at Queen Mary College on 25th November, 2019. All girls’ colleges and universities were invited on the event and more that 12 colleges participated in the competition. Two students from each institution were allowed to participate, Asma Ijaz and Zarfishan Khalid students of BFA-IV represented Visual Arts Department of Lahore College. Judges of the competition were from renowned universities of Lahore and the Chief Guest of the event was Ms. Moneeze Hashmi. Both the students of LCWU received prizes for their innovative execution of the subject. Asma Ijaz got third prize and Zarfishan Khalid got forth prize for their outstanding performance in the competition. Vice Chancellor of LCWU also appreciated the students for their participation and overall performance.

    The MoU signed between LCWU and QCG Manilla through Philippines School of Business Administration is focused on development of opportunities, supporting and enriching the research activities, education and organizing workshops and/or training programs in the field that will be beneficial for all parties.
    Prof Dr Bushra Mirza , Vice Chancellor LCWU Pakistan  and Ma. Josefina Belmonte Mayor Quezon City Govt Manilla Philippines as principal signatories assured each otherfor future collaboration in knowledge acquisition and dissemination.  In addition to academic and research partnership the 'Internship Program for students of Architecture Department for a period of 02 months partially sponsored by PSBA , Manilla  at Quezon City Govt , Manilla ‘ is the prominent and highlighting continuity of a decade long partnership between LCWU & PSBA.

    The collaboration was signed on 22nd November 27, 2019 in auspicious Syndicate Hall of LCWU with other stakeholders of ORIC & Architecture Department present in ceremony.


    Dementia Awareness Event Report

    On 20 November, 2019, under the guidance and supervision of Chairperson, Department of Applied Psychology, Professor Dr. Talat Sohail, Assistant Professor Dr. Saima Eman and Secretary Psychological Society Fatima Zeeshan along with Council member English Department Javeria Batool organised the dementia awareness event which was collaboration between Psychological society, LCWU and Alzheimer’s Pakistan.

    The event began with the opening and welcome by Dr. Saima Eman, followed by qirat by a student, Dementia friends’ session presentation by Dr. Mohammad Jafri (Director, Dilawar Hussain Foundation), speeches by neurologist Dr. Gauhar Mahmood Azeem (Registrar, Department of Neurology, SIMS/SHL), and Dr. Husain Jafri (General Secretary Alzheimer’s Pakistan) and a skit on dementia by students from Department of English, LCWU. The Chairperson, Professor Dr. Talat Sohail presented her vote of thanks to the guest speakers and motivated the students to become the champions of dementia friends initiative. Shields were distributed to the three guest speakers after vote of thanks. All students received certificates for becoming a dementia friend from Alzheimer’s Pakistan.

    The students became Dementia Friends by attending this event and volunteered (by entering in their contact details on a contact card) to become a champion in future by conducting training sessions in their respective departments and other universities.

    The team members Mr. Rehan Mujeeb and Mr. Shakeel supported the dementia friends session. The attendees included BS students from Department of Applied Psychology, MS Health Psychology, English Literature and Electrical Engineering. The staff members of Applied Psychology department also attended this event.
    It was a very well organised event with brochures, leaflets, contact cards, attendance sheet, standees, professional presentations, activities, a song video, a personal story, and a photographer by Alzheimer’s Pakistan! The LCWU students took part in qirat, posters, decor, distribution of purple ribbons and a skit.

    In liue of MOU between Lahore College for Women University ,Lahore Pakistan & PSBA Manilla Philippines a 03 Day International Conference , 2oth -22nd Nov 2019 , was organised by Architecture Department at LCWU.  The forum included technical sessions, workshop and field visits. The co-organizors in this Conference were offices of Overseas Pakistanis Commission Punjab Govt , Directorate of Building Research – C& W Punjab Govt , Directorate of Archaeology  and Punjab Disaster Management Authority .

     

    During International  Conference titled as “Architectural Education towards Disaster Mitigation” the speakers focussed on comprehensive disaster risk management  after being formulated based on  principles of risk management, response to historic, aesthetic and other values of cultural heritage, and, at the same time, address greater urban development challenges. Such planning requires skilled architects, planners, archeologists , environmentalists ,administrators and policy makers to collectively contribute towards this global cause. The 03 day forum was well attended by students of Architecture Departments from University of The Punjab , COMSATs , BNU , NCA , UET , TEVTA , UoL & many other public –private sector universities.

     

     ” Introduction to Global Culture & Heritage Management in Pakistan” as theme for Day-I, the development of  disaster risk management strategy for cultural heritage was given   paramount importance in Conference  ; while focussing  overall planning and management frameworks . In this regard the first technical session commenced with presentation by Guest of Honour MA JOSEFINA BELMONTE who is the Mayor of Quezon city and also adjunct Professor at PSBA ,Manilla.  . The Lahore Master Plan-2040 was discussed by Ar Kamil Khan Mumtaz. “Cartographic Turn: Renewing Mapping to Tackle Todays World” was deliberated   in a talk by Mr Jaques Levy a French Geographer /Urbanist and a Professor at Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne France.  The design techniques adopted by contemporary architects in Pakistan in overall preview of sustainability as being the final solution to meet all disastrous affects of manamade and natural sources ; was deliberated by Architect Rashid Rasheed , who is the Founder of Pakistan Green Building Council. The other presentors included  faculty members from Architecture Department at LCWU  Ms Sobia Razzaq , Ms Sarah Saleem ,Ms Asia Jabeen and Ms Nida Qanber and the session was moderated in end to develop an overall conclusion. Ch Waseem Akhtar Raamay , VC OPC , Govt of Punjab was the Chief Guest and Prof Dr Bushra Mirza  , Vice Chancellor LCWU chaired the session.The session was followed by a detailed meeting of delegates , trepresentatives of Lahore College for Women University with honourable Chancellor , Governor Punjab Ch Muhammad Sarwar and Begum Perveen Sarwar. The Governor expressed his encouragement for all initiatives taken by universities in preview of quality enhancement in education as well as Internationalization. Ms Yasmeen Abid Maan , Chairperson Architecture Department / Convenor of Conference extended note of Thanks to all.

    Architectural Solutions for Disaster Risk Reduction in Earthquake Affected Areas of Pakistan” as theme for Day-II  , The speakers included Prof Dr Tabassum Raza , Dean & Director at DRMU ,PSBA Manilla , Ma Josefina Belmonte Mayor QCG ,Manilla Ar Aqrab Rana CEO PGBC ,Pakistan , Prof Dr Qamar-ul-Islam –APA Ambassador in Pakistan , Ar Yasmeen Abid Maan Incharge Architecture Department LCWU  & Mr Hussain Ahmed Professor of History Govt College Township ,Lahore. The sessions were moderated by senior researcher and practitioners Ar Yasmeen Cheema &  Mr Mujib ur Rahman . During his talk the Chief Guest Mr Mahmood ur Rasheed Minister for Housing Schemes , Punjab Govt, expressed his full support to graduates and students of Architecture Department for their research and practice participation in upcoming projects in public sector. The later half was technical session at Directorate of Building Research Center C& W , Punjab Govt , presented by DG Mr Rafiq Ahmed , followed by detailed visit of delaegtes to all Material Testing Labs.

    The Day # 03 with theme  “ Master Planning LCWU Campus in Directives of LDA vision 2040”. was scheduled for workshop where students of Architecture Department presented their projects as of Regeneration of Mayo Gardens, Development Plan of LCWU Campus in light of LDA 2040 & Documentation of Old Bazars around Lahore Fort. This was followed by field visit of Delegates along with students and faculty of Architecture Department  to Harrappa

     

    The productivity of this conference is reflective in overall policy building towards developing frameworks for disaster resilience for saving cultural heritage , communicate to Ministry of Housing , Govt of Punjab Pakistan & City Govt of Manilla ,Philippines

     

     

    Report on Mahfil-e-Melad (S.A.W)

    On Thursday dated. 14-11-2019 a soul inspiring ceremony of Mehfil-e-Milad Naat was held at LCWU, Jhang Campus. The participants of Mehfile-e-Milad  presented Naat-e-Rasool in the praise of Holy prophet Hazrat Muhammad (S.A.W). The students also delivered speeches to highlight the various aspects of pious life of the Holy prophet . The programme was attended by the heads of the Educational Institutions & eminent local personalities. Mrs. Rimza Sikandar Director Administration LCWU, Jhang Campus addressed the audience and stressed upon developing good relationships with other fellow beings.
