Brief History of LCWU

Lahore College for Women University (LCWU), established in 1922, is one of Pakistan’s oldest and most prestigious institutions dedicated to women’s education. Originally founded as an intermediate residential college, it was granted Degree-Awarding Institution status in 1999 and elevated to a Women University in 2002. Over more than a century of academic excellence, LCWU has emerged as one of Pakistan’s leading institutions of higher education for women, offering programs from intermediate to doctoral levels. Among its alumni are a remarkable number of teachers, physicians, researchers, administrators, and professionals serving in diverse fields across Pakistan and beyond. Since attaining university status, LCWU has continuously strived to promote quality education, research, innovation, and the holistic development of women, while fostering a supportive and inclusive academic environment. As part of this continued commitment to its female faculty and staff, the University established the Day Care Centre to facilitate working mothers and support their professional growth alongside their family responsibilities.

Overview of the LCWU Day Care

The Day Care Centre at Lahore College for Women University was established in 1989 by the Social Welfare Department in collaboration with the Government of Punjab, reflecting the University's commitment to women's empowerment. Through HEC-funded development programs, the University later constructed a purpose-built building of 1,925 square feet for the Centre, with its operations supported through University development projects and general funds. The Centre was officially inaugurated on December 21, 2011, by Mrs. Maryam Nawaz. Located within the University premises, the Centre provides a dedicated space for infants, toddlers, and preschool-age children under the supervision of trained caregiving staff.
