“LCWU Hosts Opening Lecture on Challenges and Progress for Women in Politics”

The Department of Sociology, LCWU, organized “A Series of Lectures,” a flagship initiative promoting critical inquiry and advanced sociological understanding. The first lecture, “Women in Politics: One Step Forward, Two Steps Back,” began with the Holy name of Allah and the national anthem, followed by an engaging discussion on women’s political participation. Guest speaker Dr. Akhlaq Ahmad highlighted historical trends, key policies, and socio-cultural barriers shaping women’s roles in politics.

Dr. Asma Seemi Malik stressed the need to enhance women’s leadership and institutional support. The session, organised by Dr. Kiran Ikram and Ms. Komal Riaz Cheema, concluded with the Head of Department offering the vote of thanks and presenting a souvenir to the guest speaker.
