Department of Visual Arts

Overview

The Department of Visual Arts is among the oldest and most distinguished departments of Lahore College for Women University (LCWU), Lahore, and has played a foundational role in the academic and creative development of the institution through its sustained legacy of excellence and productivity. Established in 1952 by Miss Nasim Hafeez Qazi, the Department has since remained committed to integrating creative expression, art theory, and fine arts practice within a coherent academic framework.

The Department encourages students to extend their learning beyond the classroom by critically engaging with broader visual culture and treating studio and academic spaces as experimental platforms for conceptual development. A strong interdisciplinary linkage between Visual Arts and Art History further reinforces a critical pedagogical approach, grounded in both contemporary discourses and historical perspectives, enabling students to develop a comprehensive understanding of the visual arts in a global context.
