16-04-2026: Inauguration of Women’s Boxing Ring at LCWU under Commonwealth Games Federation “Game Changer Project

Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) is pleased to share the successful inauguration of Pakistan’s first-ever university-based women’s boxing ring under the Commonwealth Games Federation’s “Game Changer Project.” This significant development marks a major step toward the promotion of women’s participation in sports within higher education institutions.
The initiative reflects LCWU’s continued commitment to holistic student development by integrating academic excellence with physical training, leadership, and resilience. The university has already demonstrated notable progress in this domain through its achievements in the HEC Intervarsity Boxing Championship and representation at the National Games.The ceremony was graced by Mr. Arif Saeed, President, Pakistan Olympic Association (POA), as Chief Guest. In his address, he reaffirmed POA’s commitment to future collaboration with LCWU to strengthen women’s sports across multiple disciplines. He also announced plans for a fully funded international conference and support for infrastructure development, while appreciating LCWU’s performance at the national level.The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Uzma Qureshi, congratulated the organizing team on the successful conduct of the event and reiterated the university’s focus on promoting sports science and athlete development as key institutional priorities. The Vice Chancellor thanked the Chief guest and guests for their support and encouragement. She also applauded efforts of the Director Sports Dr Sumera Sattar for her outstanding leadership and exceptional service to the cause of Women sports.

The event was attended by Mr. Muhammad Khalid Mahmood, Secretary General, POA; Col. Nasir Ijaz Tung, President, Pakistan Boxing Federation; along with other distinguished officials, representatives of sports federations, and South Asian medalists.This initiative is expected to further strengthen LCWU’s role in developing women athletes and contributing to national sports excellence.
