“Beyond the Myths: Nursing the Future” — Celebrating World Breastfeeding Week

An online awareness session titled “Beyond the Myths: Nursing the Future” was organized by the Gender Equality and Mentorship Society (GEMS) in collaboration with the Women Development Center (WDC), LCWU in  August  2026, from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm, focusing on breastfeeding awareness and informed infant-feeding practices.

The session was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Uzma Ashiq Khan (Focal-Person WDC, LCWU) with the support of Dr. Shehla (Society In-charge), Dr. Madiha (Society Advisor) and President of GEMS (Gender Equality & Mentorship Society) Ms. Zarwa Ijaz Khan. The session was introduced by GEMS Secretary Syeda Fatima Shuja, who welcomed the participants and introduced the resource person, Ms. Hafiza Amna, Lady Health Visitor (LHV). Ms. Hafiza Amna delivered an informative presentation addressing common myths and misconceptions surrounding breastfeeding, the influence of cultural and social factors on feeding choices, the importance of colostrum, maternal and child well-being, and gender-based differences in infant feeding practices.

The interactive Question and Answer session provided participants with an opportunity to discuss concerns related to maternal education, perceived low milk supply, breastfeeding during pregnancy, alternatives and support for mothers who are unable to breastfeed, and counseling services for new parents. The session concluded with remarks by GEMS Second Secretary Asma Attiq, who appreciated the resource person, organizers, collaborators, and participants and emphasized the importance of sharing accurate information within families and communities.
