REPORT ON 2ND TECHNICAL SESSION

The teaching methodologies incorporated at Architecture Department Lahore College for Women University endorse an amalgam of resources. Technical sessions are held throughout semester to trigger students’ interest as well as assess their conceptual interpretation on the given projects in Studios. This is aimed to develop a deep understanding of historical backgrounds, Architectural standards , ecological requirements and sustainable design. The same being objectivity in research orientation  of Architecture Department is practised in projects and analysis. Architectural studies as focussed on integration of various disciplines thus must produce well established solutions to requirements of built and natural environment of society.

With this aim , field experts are invited every week to enhance the knowledge scape of students and add to the guidance for encompassing the given assignments and on going design projects.The sessions are inclusive of workshops, field visits and Seminars. In continuity of this practice Session –II was held on Friday the 20th Sept, 2019.
Deputy Director Conservation Cell, Archaeology Department Mr Aman was invited to deliver the talk. In reference to the assigned project to B-Arch Session 2016-21 “ Regeneration of Historical Markets around Lahore Fort” , the discussion and lecture was all technically based on the cultural , social and economic factors affecting the quality of built environment of the region.

The speaker elaborated the role of peculiar constraints in regeneration of markets as of building services and landscaping requirements. However , a great deal of conservation works in Royal Kitchens , Sheesh Mahal and urban regeneration of Food Street was discussed. The ethics of conservation as well as Disaster Mitigation Techniques was also discussed.
The session was concluded with vote of Thanks by Ar. Yasmeen Maan, Inchareg Architecture Department. The academic session provided students with field knowledge and further scope of research and design.
