LCWU and British Council Lead Dialogue on Gender-Based Violence in Media
On April 28, 2026, Lahore College for Women University, in collaboration with the British Council, hosted a workshop at LCWU under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Uzma Quraishi, Vice Chancellor, LCWU. The workshop titled as “Understanding Implications of Gender Based Violence in Pakistani Dramas” was organised by Siraj ud Din Dramatics Society. The workshop is an initiative led by Dr. Amina Yaqin, Professor in World and Postcolonial Studies at the University of Exeter, UK, in collaboration with British Council and WOW Pakistan.

This workshop marks the third year in row that WOW Pakistan has collaborated with LCWU, which has never happened before with any other academic institution in Pakistan. Such a collaboration has only been possible because of the dynamic leadership and foresightedness of our worthy Vice Chancellor. Fatima Malik, from British Council was also present at the workshop.
The session explored how gender-based violence is portrayed in Pakistani dramas, encouraging reflection on narratives, societal impact, and the role media can play in shaping healthier, more respectful relationships and communities. By dissecting these narratives, the workshop empowered students to become critical consumers to recognize the profound social implications of televised storytelling.
